Zepp Health drops clues about its next big release

Zepp Health is set to unveil its latest addition to the Amazfit adventure series, the T-Rex 3, at a launch event coinciding with the start of IFA in Berlin. While the company is not officially part of IFA, it has chosen to hold a separate event nearby.

The T-Rex line has established itself as a durable and feature-rich alternative to higher-priced options in the rugged smartwatch market. With each iteration, Zepp Health has refined and expanded the capabilities of these devices, catering to users who demand robust performance in challenging environments. Think of it as an alternative to the likes of the Apple Watch Ultra.

The company has dropped multiple teasers

Zepp Health sent out an email to customers yesterday announcing the addition. While not explicitly naming the T-Rex 3, the email contained strong hints, including mention of integration with the Amazfit Helio Ring and Zepp App, a 10% discount offer for existing Amazfit users, and most tellingly, a discount coupon code “AMAZTREX3”. That makes it pretty clear what we can expect.

The email also referenced a visual teaser showing the “outside lines of the watch”. This indicates the device has “undergone a visual transformation”, implying noticeable design changes from previous models. Instead of a perfectly round, it now has a octagonal shape.

In addition to these, Zepp Health posted a tweet containing a short video about the Amazfit T-Rex 3. In this tweet, they directly referred to the device by name, eliminating any ambiguity about the product being launched. You can check out the video below – it also offers glimpses of the upcoming timepiece. One of these was used for the headline images in this article.

Looking back

The T-Rex 3 follows a lineage that began with the original Amazfit T-Rex in January 2020. Subsequent releases included the T-Rex Pro in March 2021, the T-Rex 2 in May 2022, and most recently, the T-Rex Ultra in March 2023. Each iteration has brought incremental improvements, expanding the series’ capabilities and refining its design.

The immediate predecessor to the T-Rex 3, the T-Rex Ultra, introduced features such as offline maps, music storage, and diving-related applications. These additions, along with a more premium build, positioned it as a step up from the T-Rex 2, albeit at a higher price point.

It will be interesting to see what upgrades the T-Rex 3 brings over its predecessors. We will be on the ground tomorrow at the launch event in Berlin, bringing you the first hands-on images of the new addition.
