MIT’s Prosthetic Leg Driven by the Nervous System

In the past few years, we have covered plenty of prosthetic legs. It takes amputees a bit of time to get used to them. MIT researchers have come up with a new prosthesis that is driven by the nervous system that allows users to walk naturally. It was made in collaboration with colleagues from Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

The surgical amputation procedure done for this reconnected muscles in the residual limb which allows patients to get proprioceptive feedback about where their limb is in space. The above video shows this in action.
