First images of Garmin Fenix 8 Series & Enduro 3 surface online

Following on from the first regulatory mention of Fenix 8 earlier today, we now have the first images of the Fenix 8 range, courtesy of WinFuture.

The leaked pics show the Fenix 8 series maintaining its characteristic rugged design while introducing some new elements. According to the information accompanying the photos, the Garmin Fenix 8 will be available in at least two sizes: 47mm and 51mm, continuing Garmin’s strategy of catering to different wrist sizes and user preferences. Made of Steel/Glass or Titanium/Sapphire it will, as expected, be available in multiple colours.

The pics reveal the Elevate 5 heart rate sensor, WR-100 M water resistance / dive 40 meters (plus ability to capture basic diving metrics), built-in microphone and speaker so you can communicate via a connected phone like on the Venu 3. The bezels are also slightly updated.

The big change, of course, is the AMOLED display. The story is still developing but there are indicators that Fenix 8 might also be offered in a MIP screen option.

The addition of an 8 E model

A notable addition to the lineup is the Fenix 8 E model. Available only in a 47mm size, the ‘E’ might stand for ‘Economy,’ offering a more affordable entry point to the Fenix series. Interestingly, it appears that this new model also features an AMOLED display. But it looks to be a rebranded Fenix 7 / Epix with the old Elevate 4 heart rate sensor.

A continuation of the Enduro series

Finally, the leaks also reveal plans for an Enduro 3 model. This suggests that Garmin is maintaining the Enduro as a separate line, contrary to earlier speculation that the ‘E’ in Fenix E might stand for Enduro. The Enduro 3 is expected to come in a single 51mm case size, targeting users who prefer larger watches. That iteration retains the MIP display.

The introduction of these models raises questions about the future of Garmin’s Epix series. Previously, the main difference between the Fenix and Epix lines was the display quality. With the Fenix 8 now adopting AMOLED and Enduro 3 bridging the MIP gap (and possibly an iteration of the Fenix 8), it’s likely that Garmin is consolidating its product lines.

Pricing, launch window

Pricing information for some models has also surfaced. The 47mm Fenix 8 is expected to retail for €1,099, while the 51mm version may be priced at €1,199. These prices indicate that Garmin continues to position the Fenix series as a top of the range model.

The company typically unveils its new smartwatch lineup in late August or early September, often coinciding with the IFA tech exhibition in Europe. While Garmin’s presence at IFA 2024 remains unconfirmed, the company has historically introduced new products during this period, even when not directly participating in the event.

As we approach the potential launch window, more details about the Fenix 8 series and other new Garmin models are likely to emerge. So keep on eye on this space.
