Amazfit Helio Ring gets Device Finder & improved HRV monitoring

Zepp Health has released a new firmware update for its Amazfit Helio smart ring, introducing two notable features that enhance both usability and health tracking capabilities. The update, version 2.2.6.1, weighs in at a modest 1.78 MB and is now available for users to download.

The first addition is a new Device Finder feature. Users can now locate their Helio ring by activating its heart rate sensor light through the companion app. This function might be handy in low-light conditions, if you’ve dropped or misplaced your gadget. I’m not sure how useful it will actually be in real life, but it is a “nice to have”.

Secondly, the update introduces continuous nighttime heart rate variability (HRV) monitoring. This feature allows for more comprehensive sleep analysis and stress level assessment, providing users with deeper insights into their overnight recovery and overall health status. Presumably, the HRV readings should be more accurate now.

Amazfit Helio update

A promising newcomer

In my review of the device a few months ago, I found the Amazfit Helio Ring to be a promising newcomer in the smart ring space. It is actually the first such device from a major smartwatch brand, followed a month later by the Samsung Galaxy Ring.

While the device has some minor issues, such as occasionally inconsistent Recovery Scores, the ring excels in several key areas. It’s comfortable and stylish design and has accurate heart rate tracking during exercise. The latter, in particularly impressed me. I’ve tested several smart rings and apart from Helio, none are accurate for workouts such as running or cycling.

Beyond that the ring offers a solid set of health tracking capabilities, seamless app integration, and impressive battery life. These features, combined with its $299 price point, position the Helio Ring as a strong contender in the smart ring category. While some premium features are locked behind the Zepp Aura paywall, the free version of the app still offers a wealth of valuable insights for users.

This is the second firmware update the ring has received. The previous one unlocked the EDA sensor for more detailed tracking of your stress responses.
