RingConn has introduced its second-generation smart ring, building upon the features of its original model. An excellent device has been made even better. This piece focuses on highlighting the differences between the two models.
The company is a recent entrant in the smart ring arena, but has in the space of a couple of years made a name for itself. I’ve had the chance to test out both generations, so don’t forget to check out my detailed hands-on reviews (Gen 1; Gen 2 to follow).

Health tracking improvements
The RingConn Gen 1 excels in monitoring recovery-type metrics such as resting heart rate, heart rate variability, and sleep tracking. The Gen 2 model retains these core functions with the bonus of upgraded sensors. This includes an enhanced PPG sensor, improved temperature sensor, and upgraded 3D accelerometers. These modifications are intended to provide more precise health data.
A new health tracking feature is sleep apnea monitoring.
This addition addresses a widespread health concern, as sleep apnea affects nearly one billion people globally. The Gen 2 ring enables users to track potential sleep apnea symptoms at home without additional devices, collecting comprehensive overnight data and providing expert reports on sleep apnea severity. RingConn reports an accuracy rate exceeding 90.7% for this feature. The company says it is actively pursuing FDA clearance for the feature.
Most likely, Gen 1 will get sleep apnea tracking once it completes its Beta testing. However, Gen 2 has a one second recording time on the oxygen chart for sleep apnea – so will do the job better.
Battery life – up to 12 days
For me, the most notable improvements in the Gen 2 model is its extended battery life.
While the original RingConn conjured up to 7 days of use on a single charge, the new version boasts an impressive 10-12 days of continuous operation. How much exactly, depends on the settings. Pair this with the charging days and you get more than 150 days of use!
This enhancement in battery longevity is attributed to advanced optimizations. Some of the upgrades include a more advanced MCU chip and more efficient algorithms, which have reportedly reduced power usage by 259%.
You will find that in real life, there is quite a bit of difference between something that lasts 5-6 days between charges and something that lasts more than 10 days. In my testing, I found RingConn Gen 2 loses about 10% of battery juice per day. Which is remarkable, making this the ring with the most long lasting battery around.
Lighter, smaller – more comfortable
The dimensions and weight of the ring have been reduced in the Gen 2 model. The first generation weighed between 3-5 grams, while the new version weighs 2-3 grams. Thickness has decreased from 2.66mm to 2mm, and width from 7.8mm to 6mm. These changes make the device much more comfortable to wear.
While the first generation had a basic design, the Gen 2 offers new colour options and an upgraded glossy finish, providing more choices for users. It just looks better. And more discreet. Much more of a unisex device. Plus it is less prone to scratching.
Both generations feature IP68 water resistance, but with different depth ratings. The Gen 1 model was water-resistant up to 50 meters (165 feet), while the Gen 2 increases this to 100 meters (328 feet). This is a nice upgrade although it probably won’t make much difference to the majority of users.

Both versions of the RingConn are positioned as budget-friendly options, with no subscription costs. The Gen 2 has just launched on Kickstarter with early bird pricing starting at $209, 30% off the price it will sell from late September when it hits retail.
